IntraStromal Diagnostics

ISD (Intrastromal Diagnostics) is a revolutionary new technology. The  internationally patented system is an intra-stromal inlay (MyoRing) equipped with nano-electronics to monitor permanently diagnostic and physiologic values as well as vital body functions.

ISD has a broad range of applications including measurment and monitoring of intra-ocular pressure, puls-rate, cell density and the concentration of various molecules such as glucose. Among these applications the monitoring of intra-ocular pressure is of particular importance. The elevated intra-ocular pressure (IOP) is the major risk factor for glaucoma and the main cause for glaucoma related blindness. Glaucoma is a relatively common eye disease. Worldwide some 70 million people (140 million eyes) suffer from glaucoma which is the second common cause of blindness in both, industrial countries and developing countries. Glaucoma is dangerous since it progresses uneventful without pain and symptoms for a long time. Therefore the rate of unreported cases is high and the compliance of glaucoma patients is low. Monitoring of the IOP by means of DIOPTEX ISD can therefore achieve prevention of blindness via early detection of IOP increase in eyes at risk, optimized eye-drop therapy for target IOP adjustment and postoperative control of surgical success, respectively. The readout of the information from the inlay will be provided via a high-end non-contact transmitter-receiver system connected to a smart phone app for monitoring and analyzing the intra-ocular pressure also at distance. This feature will allow reduction of compliance related treatment failures via monitoring of the IOP even at distance without the need of frequent medical appointments.

The video shows how easy the ISD inlay can be inserted into the cornea (ISD is a MyoRing equipped with nano-electronics).

Insertion, exchange or removal of the nano-electronic containing insert is pain-free and almost as easy to perform as with a contact lens. It takes less than one minute and does not affect any eye or body function. The safety of the procedure is highly proven in thousands of cases. Depending on the geometry and dimension of the insert it can also correct myopia (shortsightedness of up to - 20 dioptres) in a minimally invasive and easily reversible way. See MyoRing.

ISD is almost as easy to insert and to remove as a Contact Lens but without daily handling and related problems such as irritation and foreign body sensation etc. Unlike a contact lens the ISD insert is not worn on the top of the cornea but 0.3 mm beneath the corneal surface within the cornea. It is therefore worn permanently but is nevertheless easily removable at any time.
